Been here once for lunch and it was good. Couldn't remember what to order for dinner. There's help in 2 pages of signature dishes. They have set meals but we ordered ala carte for 5 of us. 2 starters - peanuts with that black stuff (seaweed?) and preserved turnip (?) Deep fried yam- a bit sweetish - looks and feels more like a dessert - very nice Bamboo clams (short ones) in white wine - very nice. Pig's trotters - deep fried - eaten with their special chilli sauce is a must. Heng Hwa bee hoon- comes with prawns, tau pok, cabbage, nuts and that black stuff again - nice too Fat bee hoon soup with prawns - not bad Spinach - nice Overall a good meal.

Located on the 2nd floor of Raffles City Shopping Centre, the nearest lift lobby is lobby B. Once out of the lift, turn to your left & then left again. The restaurant is right at the end. There are a few branches, including one at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), so you can go to any one that's convenient. It is advisable to make reservations, especially for large groups, before going down as the queues (esp for dinner) can get a bit long. You will initially be given 2 menus, one for set meals, and the other for ala carte. Most people order from the ala carte menu so they can pick and choose their dishes. At the end of the meal, you will be presented with a dessert menu. In the middle of each table is Putien's famous chilli which blends multiple ingredients together for its wonderful spicy flavour. It's a tasty accompaniment with any of the dishes, besides the dessert of course. Most of their dishes come in 3 sizes; small for 1-2 persons, medium for 3-4 persons, and large for 5-6 persons. Their Heng Hwa Bee Hoon is a dry stir fried bee hoon (vermicelli) with sliced dried bean curd (tau pok), sliced pork, peanuts, and lala (mini clams). The Putien Ca Fen is like a soupy version of the Heng Hwa bee hoon. The stir fried pork & onion strips with fried mantou buns is a must try for those who love mantou buns or pork. You will be provided a small plate with neatly folded 2cm by 2cm mini triangles of plastic gloves which you can use to hold the bun in one hand while you fill it up with the pork & onions before delivering the package to your mouth without having your hands dirty in the process. The lychee sweet & sour pork is nicely cooked and not hard & dry with about 2 lychees & some capsicum peppers. I usually dip this with the chilli to give it an added zing to the flavour. This restaurant is a good place for a family meal or with friends. There are wooden baby chairs available upon request.

I love the drunken cockles here! I am usually not a big fan of cockles though I do like some of them in my laksa and char kway teow (the extent of my cockle culinary journey). The last time I saw a bowlful of cockles at another restaurant, I hated the taste of it. But after a few friends keep raving about the cockles in Putien, I just have to try it. No regrets. If you dislike cockles because of the bloody or metallic taste, you may like the version here. I do not know how they do it, but the cockles are already cooked and are not rubbery at all. There is no metallic aftertaste either. Instead the cockles are sweet and garlicky (if you take one covered with garlic) and a bit spicy (if you get one with cut chili on it). They are simply delicious. That is the highlight for me. I always like the Henghwa bee hoon and this branch's quality remains the same. It is even better when paired with the house chili. The chili is a bit sour spicy, and you can buy a bottle home too. The other dishes we had - spicy clams, fried eggplant with pork floss and duck with yam - were also nice but not that memorable. The or nee (yam paste) was too thick and not good at all. Skip this if you are a big or nee fan, you will be disappointed. I know I will be back for more drunken cockles and the noodles.
